Villa Noseda (in Lesa) is a marvellous historic villa on Lake Maggiore located on the right side of trunk road Statale del Sempione, and therefore with its original direct access to the lake. Heading north on the trunk road, it's after the settlement of Solcio and just before Lesa's lakeside promenade. The trunk road doesn't follow the lakeshore in this magnificent spot, thus freeing the headland formed at the mouth of the Erno River from traffic.
History of Villa Noseda
Villa Noseda was built in 1854 on the wishes of Baron Hermes Visconti di Ornavasso, who modified a pre-existing 18th-century building as he wanted to take advantage of the lands he had in the area of Lesa. Less than 20 years later, the villa was purchased by Enrico Noseda (1872).
The Noseda family had a veranda added and the dock built. It is one of the best works on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore and is still intact.
The villa’s original structure is currently in excellent condition and is still owned by the Noseda family. After living here permanently for some 10 years and his wife and architect Adriana Ferni Noseda carrying out careful renovations on the villa, Prof. Sergio Noja Noseda, well-known scholar of Islamic and Arab world and culture and teacher at the University Cattolica in Milan, died in 2008 following a car accident close to the villa.
Structure of Villa Noseda
Villa Noseda’s marvellous façade faces east towards Lake Maggiore, and was clearly inspired by neoclassical taste of the times with its central panoramic viewpoint and curved lines contrasting with the angular structure of its layout, which is also a group of intertwining rectangular structures stretching out towards the lake. The garden (entirely planted by Giovanni Noseda on recommendations by Mr. Ingegnoli) is still in its original shape and is now home to century-old plants (some quite rare). It is quite unitary and completes the villa’s background.
