The Golasecca Museum of Archaeology - or Antiquarium – is a small exhibit in Town Hall, displaying important archaeological finds dating back to the first Iron Age.
The Museum of Archaeology Collection
The museum’s large hall dedicated to the finds has many objects referring to the ancient Culture of Golasecca. These pieces range from polished to translucent, and iron and bronze fibulae.
For the most part, the objects are technical tools, garments, accessories and bronze objects inspired by the Etruscan collection but re-elaborated according to local taste. However, there are very few weapons. This seemingly infers a peaceful people committed to subsistence, and to making and trading products relating to breeding and agriculture.
More information on the Culture of Golasecca
The Culture of Golasecca is intended that development of human settlements in the historic period from the 9th- to 4th-centuries BC, a true civilisation of Etruscan origin that developed on the plain of the Po around the banks of the Ticino River and between the Sesia and Adda rivers, especially on lakes Maggiore and Como. One of the areas most involved in the excavations and discoveries is that bordered by the towns of Sesto Calende, Golasecca and Castelletto Ticino.
The interest by archaeologists comes from the fact that this is the first form of civilisation of craftsmen with the characteristics of historic societies, such as the specialised use of materials for making objects and adapting the territory to human needs.
