The Museo Regionale delle Centovalli e del Pedemonte (Centovalli and Pedemonte Regional Museum) is in the territory of the Municipality of Centovalli, in the old town centre in the hamlet of Intragna.
History of the Museo delle Centovalli
The Museo Regionale delle Centovalli was opened to the public in 1989 and is supported by a foundation substantially representing the municipal administration. The museum is in Casa Maggetti (Maggetti house), which dates back to the 1500’s but was expanded and renovated later.
The main goal of the museum is to protect and enhance the historic memory of the region and for this reason, was recognised and is supported by the State of the Canton Ticino.
The Museo delle Centovalli Collection
The Museo delle Centovalli is for the most part home to an historic and ethnographic collection. These finds are used to propose a unique interpretation of past uses and traditions in the region. The collection is on three floors and continues in the large courtyard of Casa Maggetti (house of Maggetti).
After the large entrance (where useful information is available), is the so-called Sala Granda (Large Hall), which collects themed exhibits, the result of the museum's research. This is also the centre for documentation, which has a library and archives.
The other smaller rooms have objects of everyday use, or those tied to religious life and tools for processing hemp. There are also traditional costumes from the Centovallina area.
