Churches in Baveno, Ornavasso and the surrounding areas

Baveno is a renowned tourist destination in the Verbano area, and home to a majestic church from the 11th century: the Church of Santi Gervaso e Protaso, which was built using the local granite and flanked with a grandiose Romanesque bell tower. To the right of the bell tower is a valuable baptistery with very unique features.

Gravellona Toce

Just a short distance from Baveno is the Municipality of Gravellona Toce and the Church of San Maurizio. Built according to the dictates of Romanesque style, it dates back to the 10th century. Beside it is a bell tower that was built a century later. Later, the church was used as a leper hospital for a long, dark period.

The Sanctuary del Boden in Ornavasso

Admire the landscapes and surrounding areas as you head towards Ornavasso, a town located close to small Lake Mergozzo. The little town is home to three sacred buildings well worth seeing. The most important one is the Sanctuary of Madonna del Boden, a building particularly dear to inhabitants and uniquely tied to local culture. The Church of San Nicola has an interesting museum on the Walser origins of the town.
Lastly is the Sanctuary of Madonna della Guardia and its characteristic tower.

If you need to relax, take a break on the shores of the lake. It’s only 15 minutes away.
