Churches in Porto Valtravaglia and the surrounding areas

Porto Valtravaglia is a charming and unique little town. It’s charming because of how Nobel prize winner Dario Fo told us about it and unique because its territory encompasses several hamlets that could be fun to visit if you are spending your holiday in the area on Lake Maggiore.

The religious complex in Domo

You certainly must pay a visit to the hamlet of Domo. This is home to the religious complex of Domo, which comprises the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Church of Santa Maria Assunta and the Church of Santo Stefano.

Musadino and Muceno are located further up the valley. This is the starting point for several trails heading up towards the mountains. Leave your car here and head towards the high grounds.

The mountain pasture of San Michele

Head towards the mountain pasture of San Michele and visit the millenary little Church of San Michele, which was built to allow believers who were in the mountains to participate in liturgical functions. There is a hidden path to the right of the church which descends through the woods to Pian d’Airò. There are other trails starting out in Pian d’Airo’ leading back into the valley at Ligurno or Torre, just a short distance from Musadino and Muceno. Take in the delightful view as you head back down into the valley and don't forget your camera!
