Bee is a very small town positioned 600 metres asl surrounded by nature on the slopes of the mountains dominating Verbania, and in particular stretches out under the summit of Mount Cimolo. Surrounded by pinewoods and chestnut trees, it is sheltered by the Val Grande National Park and offers a one-of-a-kind view of the lake.
The village’s origins are very old and some experts believe they date back to the period of Roman domination. It’s worth mentioning that this very unique name is simply the onomatopoeic expression of a sheep's bleating. The figure of the sheep is also in the city’s coat of arms, where it is depicted drinking from a spring.
Tourism and relaxation in Bee
Bee is a unique albeit very small place and is very well known within the realm of tourism. It is an especially perfect location for absolute relaxation and reconciling with the world and nature. Many holiday-makers come here every year to get back into physical and mental shape.
Two hamlets also belong to the territory of Bee. They are easily reached by travelling on the road from Verbania leading here and continuing towards Premeno: Pian Nava (where there is another detour towards Esio) is known for its small ski resort mainly suited for beginners and families, and Albagnano is home to the Albagnano Healing Center, a Buddhist centre for meditation and spiritual retreat frequented by practicing Buddhists from all over the world.
Guide to Bee
The Parish Church of Santa Croce and Villa Castiglioni can be admired in the old town centre. Lastly, the Church of Madonna Addolorata is in Roncaccio. The little church in Pian Nava is also worth seeing. In addition to celebrating Patron Saint Santa Croce in September, there are several traditional festivals and events, such as the chestnut festival usually held in October.
