For over 40 years, the Galleria Matasci in Tenero has been an important meeting place for enthusiasts of art in all its forms. Shows and events – organised with passion and initiative by viticultural entrepreneur from Tenero Mario Matasci - have always been of quality.
The shows at the Galleria Matasci and Matasci Art
Over time, the Galleria Matasci has organised over 100 shows displaying paintings, sculptures and photography, which have especially looked into informal-expressionist language. The gallery was initially in the halls of marvellous Villa Jelmini, which hosted works by Otto Dix, Ennio Morlotti, Tino Repetto and many other artists.
The Matasci Art area was later inaugurated above the Matasci corporate wine shop. This area, which was specifically designed to exhibit valuable works of art, can be toured freely weekdays. Mario Matasci’s artistic passion over the years has also resulted in a collection, which can now be seen on request. This is the so-called Deposito della Collezione Matasci (Matasci Collection Depot) located a few kilometres from the wine shop on the road between Locarno and Bellinzona.
The Museo del Vino of the House of Matasci in Villa Jelmini
There is a unique area in the historic cellars at Villa Jelmini dedicated to the history of making wine: the Museo del Vino (Museum of Wine). It is in a cellar with typical vaults, and contains important evidence of viticulture in the Canton Ticino, which started in the middle of the 19th century. The various sections are explained through information panels, which also provide descriptions of the crucial moments in grape processing: from harvesting to distillation. There are casks, vats, back baskets, presses, bottles and demijohns of all kinds here. There are also interesting tools for bottling and corking the bottles.
