Germignaga is a charming town located at the mouth of the Tresa River, between Brezzo di Bedero and Luino. This village dates back to an ancient era, as shown by how far back its old town centre is with respect to Lake Maggiore; in fact, over the years its territory has developed on the land brought by flooding waters. The first historic document mentioning the town dates back to 807 AD. Germignaga’s long history also includes a ship battle won against the Torriani at the end of the 1200’s by Simone da Locarno (serving under Otto I), and the insurrectionary attempt by Francesco Daverio in 1848. For centuries, the town’s main source of income was fishing and crafts, but now it’s an especially popular tourist destination.
