Cultural areas in Ispra and Angera

Ispra, Ranco and Angera are three little towns that are close to each other and full of cultural and significant historic evidence. If the idea of a cultural trip enthuses you and you are nearby, Ispra is the ideal starting point for an itinerary marked by archaeology and ancient history.

The ancient kilns in Ispra

First of all, Ispra is the location of the ruins of Castello di San Cristoforo (San Cristoforo castle), an important outpost used in the past to communicate with the surrounding towns. The ancient and charming kilns are on the hills surrounding the town. They were once used to process quicklime.
Admiring the traces of those who preceded us is always fascinating.

The unique Museum of Ranco

Ranco is just a few minutes away. Here you can tour (free admission) a very unique museum: the Museo dei Trasporti (Museum of Transport), which was created thanks to the passion and tireless work of Professor Francesco Ogliari.

The Rocca di Angera (Angera fort) and Civic Museum

Heading down Lake Maggiore, you’ll reach Angera.
This little town’s name is certainly associated with the famous fort, which dominates the town from the top of a hill. The fort is also home to the Museo della Bambola (Museum of Dolls). Another interesting museum is the Civic Museum which contains archaeological finds discovered in the necropolis located south of town.
