Among the key features at Golf Club Alpino di Stresa (almost a hundred years old) is its favourable position, both in terms of view and easy access. Work began in 1924 and in the spring of 1925, Francesco Pasquali overlooked the green, natural terrace between Gignese and Vezzo to take stock of the situation. There was so much work to be done: there was no drainage and only 3 greens were ready. However, Pasquali shot ahead and course inauguration was set for September of the same year.
28 June, the golf club’s executive council announced a championship “for professionals”: this is how the Italian Open came to be! There were only 3 participants that year, but on the wake of enthusiasm, the golf club would host the Italian Open once again in 1926 and 1927, with an increased number of participants.
Golf Alpino was completed in the years before the war. The national mixed doubles championships were hosted during the war and a “pro-soldiers” competition was held in 1942. Several national tournaments were held on Alpino's fairways after the war. Numerous national and international competitions were held in the 1950’s and 1960’s and many monarchs, princes and foreign state representatives enjoyed the sights and reception offered by this club.
Every year since 1988, Alpino’s golf team has achieved prestigious results in the “Italian Championship” for teams. The men’s team has maintained Alpino's prestige by getting to the finals 5 times, and always placing in the top spots.
The club house: the throbbing heart of the facility!
The club house has changing rooms, a bag drop-off area, secretary’s office and Club dei Giovani youth club, and invites guests to its friendly restaurant, characterized by a large window overlooking the last hole and by an excellent cuisine based on local dishes. The rule in these areas is always the same: to make guests feel as though they were at home and allow them to completely enjoy the sport.
Youth at Golf Club Alpino. A true strength!
In 1994, the Italian Golf Federation awarded Golf Club Alpino with the “Seminatore d’Oro” prize for having brilliantly achieved all the federation's goals regarding promoting golf among young people. Club dei Giovani youth club is a group of friends who enjoy themselves playing golf. This is why activities involving managing the entire youth movement are directed and coordinated to promote coming together, transmit enthusiasm and a strong sense of sportsmanship and belonging, and to develop a spirit of “healthy competition” among young people with the sole purpose of “improving and growing together”. Not least, one of the goals is to train tomorrow's champions in terms of technique and character, to continue the club’s great sports tradition both locally and nationally.
