Cycling in the area of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola

In addition to having artistic and natural attractions, the towns in the province of Verbania, or Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, are the ideal environment for all cycling enthusiasts. Thanks to the conformation of the territory, the area has many hills located in areas providing exceptional views. It’s the best way to combine sports and tourism.

The easier routes

There are two easy routes: one is surrounded by the lakes and the other goes from Gozzano to Quarna. The starting point for the first one (which is 50 km long) is outside the town of Invorio. It crosses several towns and the Coiromonte and then returns to Invorio. The second one is 60 km long and starts out in Gozzano. It runs along the entire lake heading towards Omegna up to a fork in the road for Quarna Sotto. Don’t forget to bring water with you.

The ascent of the mountain pasture of Quaggione

Experts can try the route (18-22% gradient) from Alzo leading to the mountain pasture of Quaggione. It’s difficult but highly satisfying both from a sports and natural aspect. After having pedalled in the green Strona Valley, cyclists arrive at a unique panoramic point encompassing the entire Verbano area.
